Lowestoft is a seaside town on the east coast of England with a population exceeding 70,000. History of Lowestoft

Lowestoft is a coastal town and the most prominent settlement in the East Suffolk region. Originally a Danish settlement built on Lowestoft Ness, the most easterly point of the UK, the town developed rapidly along with the local fishing industry and grew to become a popular UK seaside resort for the Edwardians and Victorians. Following the decline of the fishing industry, oil and gas exploration took over in the 1960s and the town has now developed into a regional centre for the renewable energy industry.

Lowestoft has a busy high street, many supermarkets and retail stores, along with many pubs, restaurants, café’s, hotels and takeaways as well as various gyms and leisure centres throughout the town.

Things to do

Lowestoft is home to an award winning sandy beach with two piers for visitors and residents to enjoy. Situated next to Lowestoft is the stunning waterside park Oulton Broad which is a short walk to Carlton Marshes, a stunning nature reserve where visitors can see the local wildlife and take in the magnificent views. Pleasurewood Hills is an exciting theme park situated just north of Lowestoft Town and has over 35 rides, shows and attractions.

Local schools

Lowestoft has 27 schools (excluding independent schools), including 17 primary schools and 4 secondary schools with the majority of schools attaining a Good Ofsted rating. Students can further their education at Lowestoft Sixth Form and the Lowestoft campus of East Coast College.

Transport links

Lowestoft has excellent transport links from the bus and train stations, providing regular services to Norwich City centre. The A47 runs from Lowestoft through Great Yarmouth, then in to Norwich and the A12 connects the town to Ipswich.
